  OpenJazz-Wii News/Build Released posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

Tehpola one of the members of the Wii64/WiiSX Team has posted a news post over at EmulateMii.
Quote:
I’m sorry for those of you who will be disappointed that I’m not posting to talk about Wii64 or WiiSX right now, but I have another little release I’d like to announce. A month or so ago, I was working on porting OpenJazz, a Jazz Jackrabbit 1 engine, to the Wii, and I got it in a pretty polished condition. However, I didn’t release it earlier because I couldn’t get the network support just right. I’ve decided to roll it out in its current state without networking and hopefully someone else interested in the project will pick it up because I’d like to focus more on Wii64. Anyone interested should check out: the google code page.
OpenJazz is an interpreter to play Jazz Jackrabbit game in its various editions.

Dolphin R3661 Buid Released - Gamecube and Wii Emulator for WIndows posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

The Dolphin Team have released a new version of their Nintendo GameCube and Wii emulator for the PC. The emulator has great compatibility and speed along with Wiimote support (if you have a compatible bluetooth dongle).
Quote:
Dolphin is a Nintendo GameCube and Wii emulator for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X (Intel/AMD CPU). Its name is derived from the original code name for the GameCube, "Dolphin" in 1999.
Dolphin is considered to be the first GameCube emulator to successfully run commercial games. Following a certain revision, it also became the first emulator to run several Wii games properly.
Post by the Dolphin team:
Quote:
Dev's have been hard at work and doing some amazing fixes. First off is DSP work. Super Mario Galaxy now has sound support and is working for the most part. It's just missing some volume controls and left/right controls on the sound. Second are the graphical fixes. Fear not, it will no longer make you want to stab your eyes out. I have taken a few pictures and will link you to the forum post to see them. Currently, there is a bug in Duel Core causing a hang but its already being looked at.
New Features:

- Good news, the Duel Core bug has been corrected. we can now enjoy ZWW and SMG in its full speed goodness! bins comming soon.
- This has to be one of the best releases we have done in a long time! With Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda Wind Waker both having functing sound. Also, Super Mario Galaxy having its Graphical issues fixed and is now completelly playable! Download and post some screen shots on the Super Mario Galaxy thread in the previous news post! Check the svn changes for more details on whats been changed/fixed in the source code.
- Mario Kart DD is fully working as well with sound.
- We are aware real wiimotes are not working currently and its being looked at now.

RawkSD - Rock Band 2 Wii SD Customs posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

AerialX has came by the forum to release Rock Band 2 Wii SD Customs. For more information read below:

IRC Channel: #RawkSD on EFnet (Join us on Mibbit)
RawkSD is brought to you by Aaron "AerialX", tueidj, and Mrkinator.
Installation and Usage Guide
Quote:
RawkSD allows you to install custom songs as DLC onto an SD card, to be played on Rock Band 2.
It also supports importing songs from Rock Band 1 and Guitar Hero 3 disc images. We suggest using SuperDump to dump your discs to SD/USB in 15 to 30 minutes.
It supports everything up to the most updated Wii, though you must run the included IOS37 patcher before running it (unless you already have IOS37 patched, through cIOScorp or SoftMii or something).

A good website to gather custom songs from is ScoreHero (or Rock Band ScoreHero).

NOTE: RawkSD does not work when Rock Band 2 is loaded with recent cIOS releases, which means no USB/SD loaders (yell at waninkoko; it's not our fault). Either use an original disc, or cIOScorp37 is known to work.

Special thanks goes out to nanook for his work on Guitar Hero 3 hacking and Queen Bee.

Thanx to AerialX for the release news/post.

Wolfenstein 3D Wii to 1.3 Released posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

MrPeanut has updated Wolfenstein 3D Wii to 1.3. Wolfenstein 3D is a video game that is generally regarded as having popularized the first person shooter genre on the PC.
Quote:
Wolfenstein was created by id Software and published by Apogee Software. Released on May 5, 1992 for MS-DOS, the game was inspired by the 1980s Muse Software computer games Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. It has been ported to a wide variety of systems, including 3DO, Super NES, Game Boy Advance, Acorn Archimedes, Atari Jaguar, Apple Macintosh, Apple IIGS, Windows Mobile and the iPhone OS.
What's new?

* Adlib (synthesized) sound and music now work 100%. I want to thank Tantric for his work on the SDL port for the wii. The SDL_Sound code is awesome!
* I've done a little tweaking with the IR turning. I've added a "DeadZone" variable to the engine which discards input from the controller if it is a certain amount of pixels from the center of the screen (this number is customizable in the misc options menu). The idea behind this is that turning your character using the wiimote doesn't appear so sensitive and jerky. Thanks Arikado for this idea.
* Fixed the typo in the cheat menu, Thanks Roobix.

System Menu 4.1 in Japan posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

Nintendo has released System Menu 4.1 in Japan.
Quote:
Nintendo released a Wii Firmware update, version 4.1 today in Japan. A bug fix to Wii Sports Resort, in which after playing a WiiWare/VC game off the SD card, and then playing Wii Sports Resort afterward, you would be forced to watch the how-to Wii Motion Plus video that normally plays only once on the initial play of Wii Sports Resort.
The usual warnings apply, updating is not recommended until more information is known about its effects on homebrew. Bannerbomb is still working! You may check updates via Wiimposter Logs.
Quote:
Version 4.1 of the System Menu was built on June 24th, 2009 and released on July 3rd, 2009.

BootMii Configuration Editor to v2.0 Released posted by djdynamite123
07-03-2009

pembo has updated his BootMii Configuration Editor to v2.0. BootMii configuration editor allows you to change the values in the /bootmii/bootmii.ini file without having to take out the SD card and edit it on a PC.
Quote:
You can change:
video mode
auto boot option
boot delay time
Currently the application always rewrites the bootmii.ini file when you save the options.
What's new?

* Settings Dialog to change editor settings. This can be accessed by pressing the ‘HOME’ button. The settings are persisted to the langauges file, so if you change the language/skin, whenever you load BootMii Configuration Editor, your selected options will be the default
* Internationalisation Supported (Currently English & Spanish Langauges available). Further langauges can be added by editing the bce_messages.xml file. See the readme.txt for details of how to do this
* Skins/Colour Change. The application can now be presented in a number of look & feels. Initially the following skins are available:
Windows - Windows Installer/DOS like look/feel with a blue background and grey windows
* Console - Black background, white text with other colour text to highlight options/selections
* Inverse Console - White background, black text with other colour text to highlight options/selections
* Custom Skins can be added by editing the bce_messages.xml file. See the readme.txt for instructions on how to do this
* On-line new Version Checking. When the Editor is loaded, it performs a check to see if the version running is the latest available version. If a newer version is available, then a message is shown for a few seconds during startup to indicate this. This online checking can be disabled if you do not wish BootMii Configuration Editor to check for a new version or do not have the wii networked. If you wish to disable this check, see the instructions in the readme.txt
Please be careful if you do edit the XML file. A corrupt/non well-formed XML file will result in a Crash of the Wii and will dump the stack to the screen. Ensure you take a backup of the original before attempting to make any custom changes.
Currently you can only use characters in the standard ASCII character set, e.g. [0-9] [a-z] [A-Z]. Some punctuation characters may also cause issue. It is recommended that you do not use characters with any accents/umlauts/etc as this will cause an issue.
If you do create a translation for a new language please let me know and I’ll include it in the next release!

Thanx to pembo the autor for the news tip

lxdream v0.9.1 "Turtle" Released posted by brakken
07-02-2009

The lxdream Team have released a new version of their Sega Dreamcast emulator for both OSX and Debian based Linux distributions.

Quote:
As promised, the 0.9.1 release is now out. It is somewhat faster than 0.9, the core is around 30-40% faster, and MMU performance is nearly an order of magnitude better, but rendering performance is still holding things back overall. There’s also (finally) preliminary VMU support for anyone who cares about that - you can attach them in the controller settings panel. As always, it’s available from the download page, release notes are here. And to make things even easier for Debian users, there’s now an apt repository available - just add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
and do apt-get update, apt-get install lxdream.
Next version we’ll try and attack the rendering performance problem…
  • Lots of core performance improvements, especially in the MMU
  • VMU support (memory card only)
  • GDB remote debugging support
  • Quick-save states
  • LIRC driver
  • Now uses the ~/.lxdream directory (by default) to store runtime data
  • Audio + input drivers are now built as plugins

JPCSP 0.2 - revision 1083 Released posted by brakken
07-02-2009

The JPCSP Team behind the name of the same emulator for the PC has released a new version. The JPCSP emulator emulates the Sony PSP portable video gaming console using the JAVA programming language and can run a handful of games - mostly 2D puzzle and a few RPG.

What's New?

- Added basic GE capture support, tested on cube sample. Until we record persistent GE state (texture on/off, etc) for best results replay captures in the same game it was recorded in.
- Fixed a refresh bug. Open menu trick should no longer be needed (click on File menu, it overlaps the display area and forces it to redraw, sometimes making something appear).
- fixed wait umd stat.

PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B Released posted by brakken
07-02-2009

The PSPGEN Team have released a new version of their Custom Firmware for the Sony PSP. Using this custom firmware you can get the most of of your PSP like playing backups, launching homebrew and having access to the Playstation Store.

What you need:
  • A PSP-1000 or PSP-2000 v1 or v2 already running Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A. DO NOT attempt to install this on a PSP-3000 or any PSP with a TA-088v3 motherboard.
5.50 GEN-B [translated] changes:
  • Bug fix: the VSH menu can now be disabled
  • Pressing Select can start the recovery, bring up the VSH recovery menu, or do nothing at all (for those who wish to use Remote Play between their PSP and PS3)
  • Update via Network (taken from M33)
  • * That Evangelion Jo game we told you about; it can be launched & played now
  • Pandora (converting the battery to/from the Pandora-state) and Shutdown Device options added to the VSH menu
  • Flash1 format option adds a check that prevents a flash1 format if enabled
  • Access [remains open] to the PlayStation Store and Remote Play continues working
* Playing Evangelion: Jo without having to patch the ISO is a bit unstable. This is more or less a proof-of-concept to bypass the newly introduced CFW check. Proper details on countering this protection will be released later. For now — very quickly press Triangle & Circle when starting the game. It should work.
Once again — props to the GEN team. Nice work.

Bugiin 1.3 Released posted by djdynamite123
07-02-2009

brunette_redhead has released Bugiin 1.3.
"bugiin" is a game on which you should clear the screen of all insects that are present on the screen.
Quote:
If you have ever played Mario Paint for the SNES, then you have probably played the Gnat Attack game (also known as Coffee Break). My game is a spinoff of this, created for the Wii. I took many creative liberties with it, including redoing all of the sound effects with my brother and my girlfriend, and switching up the game modes just a bit.
There are two main game modes, the "Classic" mode, which is level based much like the original. There is also a "Swarm" mode which features endless enemies.
What's new?

* Classic mode supports 2 players now.
* An options menu has been added to select graphics mode and toggle music/sfx.
* Swarm mode uses new swatter graphics.
* Screen shots can be taken by pressing the 1 button at any time.
* Pressing the 2 button brings up a help screen.
* Pressing plus during gameplay pauses game.
* Added border during gameplay.

Nitro Engine v0.6.0 Released posted by brakken
07-02-2009

AntonioND
has released a new version of his PALib compatible 3D engine for the Nintendo DS. The Nitro Engine is a project for Nintendo DS developers which is aimed at implementing 3D based gameplay into their projects more easier.

What's New?

-The functions used to modify textures and palettes now return a pointer to the data so that you can modify them easily.
-Each material can have different propierties (amient, diffuse...). You can set the default ones, the propierties each new material will have, and then you can set each material's propierties individually.
-New texture and palette allocation system, it is faster and better. Defragmenting functions don't work now, but I'll fix them for the next version.
-Added a debug system. You can compile Nitro Engine in "debug mode" and it will send error messages to the function you want. Once you have finished debugging or whatever, just recompile Nitro Engine without debug mode.
-Window system renamed to Sprite system. You can set a rotation and a scale for each one.
-The most important thing... The animation system has been improved, and now animated models are drawn using linear interpolation (you can disable it, anyway).
-As a result, I've modified the converters, so you'll have to convert yout animated models again.

  MIKE Updated posted by brakken
07-02-2009

The MIKE Team a flavor of GC-Linux that runs off of MINI has been updated.

Quote:
The 'mini' kernel is now at its second preview version, based on linux kernel 2.6.30. This new release brings additional enhancements when running under the 'mini' firmware replacement. Now you can make use of 11 additional megabytes of MEM2 RAM and the potential hardware input/output latency issues have been cleared thanks to the until-now-barely-disclosed AHBPROT feature.
And if you missed the original post ...

Quote:
It's a pleasure to introduce you to our new project member, the MIni(-based) KErnel Preview One (aka MIKE p1). Thanks to the hard work of Team Twiizers, with a special mention to Marcan, MINI (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Mini), the firmware replacement for the Starlet processor, can be used to access all the Nintendo Wii video game console hardware without artificial restrictions. This initial kernel preview proves that the use of Software Libre is a real alternative to proprietary software, and that similar or better results can be achieved through its use and embracement.

hbcxmlgen-bash MOD Released posted by djdynamite123
07-01-2009

Nerdii has released a modified hbcxmlgen-bash, a meta.xml generator to be used along with your'e applications via the HmebrewChannel.
Quote:
Works on any computer that can run .sh scrpts!
Have you heard of it on WiiBrew.org before??
Well, here is my MOD version.
Modified for easy use!
# hbcxmlgen-bash - This script makes the meta.xml file for the Homebrew Channel in
# the current working directory. It also checks if it exists and asks
# if you want to overwrite it. I won't lie, the name is stolen from
# pinecone's Java-based app of the same name and purpose. I wrote this
# because if you don't want to screw with Java, hey, you shouldn't have to!
# I'm afraid this is the only contribution I can make to the Wii homebrew
# scene with my current skillset. I credit the WiiBrew community for sparking
# my initial interest in programming. Thank you!
