Iwata: Piracy “is an endless battle” posted by djdynamite123
11-06-2009

Nintendo boss says publisher will pursue technical and legal measures to crack down on software theft. With the PS3 remaining the only current generation console to remain unhacked, platform holder Nintendo – whose DS and Wii remain two of piracy’s largest victims – has admitted that the battle against software piracy “is endless”.
Quote:
“I recognize there is more software piracy, playing downloaded software data without purchase, than some years ago, on many of the current platforms including Nintendo DS,” boss Satoru Iwata stated.
“As for the piracy itself, it is said to be hard to precisely figure out the total impact as it is done underground. But I think I can declare that software piracy impacts all video game platforms today.”
Iwata went on to detail he ways in which Nintendo is attempting to fight the battle.
“As for specific measures, we have two ways – technological and legal measures,” Iwata explained.

“They tend to become a cat-and-mouse chase. As the piracy itself is underground, someone somewhere finds out the solution to evade our measures. When we shut one hole of the mice, they have dug a new one somewhere else.
“We have acknowledged that this is an endless battle, and we believe the best measure is to keep fighting it technologically and legally.
"As for the details of specific measures, I'll refrain from disclosing them here, as this conversation will be public online and the pirates will be able to find. I will however promise to keep acting legally and technologically, with patience.”

Rampage at Army Base posted by brakken
11-05-2009

I would like to extend my condolences 11 killed and the 31 wounded by an Army Major one Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan who was a Muslim extremest. He entered in the post's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers are either returning from duty or about to be shipped out and with two hand guns killed and wounder his victims. Now you see why I say the Koran Bible is bad shit. I wish all of the families victims God's speed and good luck through these harsh times.

Of course if you live in a Muslim city that is constantly a war zone this should mean little you. Either way I know it's not "scene" news, but it upsets me enough to post it. Please refrain from defamatory post - we have the facts.

PSPKVM v0.5.5 Test 2 Released posted by brakken
11-05-2009

The PSPKVM Team have released a new version of their Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) CLDC/MIDP Emulator for the Sony PSP. Using this emulator you can enjoy many, many games on your Sony PSP. Mind you most of these games are totally free! There is currently no firmware v1.5 version, but who still uses it anyway?

What's New?

This release adds file-based MP3 playback capability to the JSR 135 Multimedia API, meaning J2ME media players like GlassPlayer will be able to play local MP3 files, and games and other apps using MP3s for sound should work. The package is a ´bare eboot´ .zip, containing only the EBOOT.PBP (replace the one in our current 0.5.4 install or a previous 0.5.5 test build with it to add this feature). The download is below.

Changes include:

* Initial MP3 (JSR 135 Multimedia API) implementation added. This is a MediaEngine (hardware-based) implementation--very fast, and easy on your processor. It is for file-based playback only as of this release (no streaming from the net as yet), and has the following known limitations: there are no shuttle controls or volume control, metadata reading is not yet supported, and backgrounded playback, while functional, will break your network connection.

* Added a ´mark all contents´ command to AMS folders

Unsure what WODE is? check the previous thread: Here. But to summarise, WODE is a next generation jukebox modchip that allows external hard drives with multiple FileSystems as-well as Disk loading of backups on the Nintendo Wii.

Manic Miner The Lost Levels DS v1.03 Released posted by brakken
11-04-2009

Here's a homebrew game that should catch your attention. Remember the platformer game Manic Miner for the ZX Spectrum released in 1983? Well if not it was one hell of a game. So anyway, the Headsoft Team who recently released Warhawk DS have released a new version of their remake of Manic Miner. This new version features some minor bug fixes and if you also read the new installation instructions you can now get the game running on the DSTT / TTDS.

Quote:
Installation

We recommend the EFS version for most people. For people exeriencing problems with the EFS verison should try the FAT version. This game requires a dldi patch compatible card to play.

* EFS Version - Just copy the included ManicMinerLL.nds file to your backup card and play.
* FAT Version - Copy the MMLL folder included in the archive to the root of your sd card. Copy the ManicMinerLL.nds to anywhere on your card.
* DSTT Cards - You need to be running the DSTT v1.17a unofficial firmware available from here.
What's New?* Several bug fixes, moved music to external file system
